Painting detail- portrait.
Painting detail - hand.
Painting detail - piano.
Working on the piano. No strings yet and the head and hands are still a monochromatic underpainting. I use a monitor to view the subject while painting.
Getting ready to finish painting the strings. They took forever! The painting is a lot large than it looks in these photographs.

ABOUT THIS PAINTING
Commissioned for use as the cover for the CD and LP versions of Beautiful Jazz: A private concert, the new release by Grammy nominated jazz pianist Christian Jacob.

"I spent the day with Christian in his home arranging many different poses and lighting configurations. Near the end of the session, he leaned over the open piano and I knew this was going to be the painting.
It is complex and dynamic, yet at the same time structured and balanced. I felt it reflected Christian's music and the way he worked." ~ Joe Lacey
